Many athletes use different electrolyte drinks, but we like to try and stay as natural as possible. We wanted to share our personal power drink ingredients that keep us going right until the end.
If we take 2 bottles, we like to have one filled with just water and the other filled with our power drink ingredients! It’s super simple and quick to make just before you head out on that beautiful ride.
Power Drink
Water
250ml fruit juice (without sugar)
3 grams of salt
Simply put all the ingredients in the bottle, give it a shake and you’re ready!
Ok look, it’s our power drink and we’ve grown to love it, but we didn’t say it tasted great! The salt does make it taste a little odd at first, but try with 1 gram of salt at first and then gradually add a little extra the next time you try it. You’ll soon find that you get used to 3 grams and hopefully feel the difference in staying hydrated and full of energy.
It’s definitely not recommended to try on race day. As with most things in triathlon, we always like to try out what we want to do before the race itself. You see, triathlon also teaches you to be prepared and think ahead! It’s a learning curve for some of us, more than others, and some may even have to learn the hard way!
