One of the most beautiful things I’ve witnessed this year isn’t faster running or longer distances.
It’s connection.
Women who arrived on retreat as strangers are now friends. They’re coming back for reunion retreats. They support each other, encourage rest, celebrate wins — and most importantly, they make space for joy.
Running together changes everything
For many women, the idea of running with others feels intimidating:
- “I’m too slow”
- “I’ll hold people back”
- “I’m not fit enough yet”
But what I see time and time again is this: community removes pressure — it doesn’t add to it.
When you run with others:
- the pace matters less
- the conversation matters more
- the experience stays with you
Running becomes something you look forward to, not something you have to force.
As we move into the new year
Maybe the bravest goal isn’t a race or a distance — maybe it’s saying yes to running together.
That could look like:
- asking a friend to join you once a week
- trying a local run club
- committing to a shared challenge
- or stepping away on retreat and giving yourself time just for you
Taking time out isn’t selfish. It’s necessary. And when women give themselves permission to do that, the ripple effect is incredible.
Running can be strong. And it can also be soft, supportive, and deeply joyful — especially when shared.
Community & Running Together
Running doesn’t have to be a solo journey.
On retreat, I see what happens when women give themselves permission to step away from daily life and run together – the laughter, the support, the friendships that continue long after we return home.
If this blog sparked something in you – a longing for connection, encouragement, or shared joy – know that spaces like this exist. You don’t need to be faster or fitter. You just need to show up as you are.
Sometimes saying yes to community is the most powerful step forward.
